Oh, hey there!  You may or may not have noticed I haven’t been around.  Okay, you probably didn’t.  Well, this is awkward.  Anyway, as much as I’d like to believe you’ve been waiting desperately for my next post, I will refrain from apologizing for my absence so as not to commit the Number 1 Bad Blogger Habit.

Instead, here’s a quick rundown of the last two weeks:

  • Late nights at work + early mornings + very few workouts = Stressful and Sleepy Sarah
  • That’s mostly it.

There, you’re all caught up!  Alright, there have been a few highlights.  Such as:

1) The return of Book Club!

Do you remember back in August I told you about a Book Club I started with some girlfriends … and then I never spoke of it again?  Well, we had a little trouble getting it off the ground but finally had our first meeting in December (about In the Time of the Butterflies) and our second meeting last Saturday (about Shanghai Girls).  At first I wasn’t sure if the club would work out since it isn’t always easy for 6 busy girls to coordinate schedules, but it’s oh so worth it!  Only two meetings in and the club is everything I’d hoped it would be.  It’s good motivation to read more and provides built-in opportunities to socialize with some of my favorite people.  More than that, it has filled a void I didn’t even realize I had.  I have some good friends here and am really grateful for that, but I haven’t had a good group of local girlfriends for a while.  Do you know what I mean?  It’s the group part I’d been missing.  With people graduating and moving and the normal life changes we all go through in our 20s, most of my friend-groups had dissipated.  I’d been missing that “community” of girls.  There’s just something about being in a room of like-minded and fun girls that feeds my soul.  Next month’s book is The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.  So far the books have been really good!  I can’t wait to dig in!

2. Eric’s last day at work.

Yep, he’s a free man.  And he couldn’t be happier.  Seriously, he looks taller without all that pressure on his shoulders.  Friday was his last day and he came home in a sort of surreal funk.  Happy to be done, sad to say goodbye to some colleagues, excited about the future, disbelieving it is all actually happening.  He starts his new apprenticeship tomorrow and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.  I thought he might want to go out to celebrate, but he was content to have a chill Friday night at home (knowing he’ll go out with some work buddies next weekend).  That was fine by me because I was completely exhausted from the week.  I even had to take a nap before dinner (I almost never nap)!  When I (finally) got up, we went back to Tres (that awesome Spanish restaurant I mentioned) and then rented 50/50.  Have you seen it?  I thought it was really well done!

3.  Our neighbor moved.  And didn’t take Boomer.

We are still not 100% sure what we are going to do.  Or maybe we are just not ready to admit it?  But we were very relieved when we found out our neighbor decided he didn’t want to adopt him (actually – he can’t take him to where he’s moving).  I promise a full post when we make an actual decision.  Oh my god we need to just decide already who are we kidding?!

(By the way, Boomer is sleeping next to me as I type this).

girl, please, you know you love me

4. We bought a juicer.

Now we can drink our calories vitamins like fancy people!  We tried it out tonight – delicious.  Behold, fresh carrot-apple juice…

5. I thought about quitting the blog but didn’t.

Sometimes I am just too busy to write.  Sometimes it stresses me out that so much time goes by between posts.  Sometimes I think what I really need is (much) less time online.  Sometimes I just have nothing interesting to say.  So I thought about shutting this silly thing down.  But Eric encouraged me to keep it up, and truth be told I love writing.  I just need to put less pressure on myself.  This is a hobby, not my career, and I guess it’s better to write every once in a while than not at all, right?  So, there you have it.  I hope I don’t have many more dry spells like the last few weeks, but if I do, I will chill the fuck out, remind myself it’s just a blog, and keep writing!
