If you want to try a fun game, take a shot every time you read the word blog or blogger. A word or warning, though: you’ll never make it through the whole post! 😉
I admit, I am really having fun with this little blog o’ mine. I have always wanted to keep a journal, but was never good at disciplining myself to just sit down and write. I’ve enjoyed taking the time to think through my experiences – big and mundane – and put them into words. I’ve especially loved the interaction with readers, something you don’t get writing a journal. That’s part of why I started this. I’ve been following several blogs for a long time now and am amazed by the community as a whole. Blogging puts you out there in a way unlike most other forms of media, but I’ve seen how the blogging community sticks together and encourages their own. It’s only been a little over a month, but I already love it.
But … dare I say it … I’ve had a hard time knowing what I should write about! I intentionally gave this blog a flexible title so I wouldn’t be confined to food or exercise or relationships, etc. I honestly don’t know what I want the focus to be, except … life in my 30s … which is somewhat ambiguous … much like my blog! I’m not engaged or recently married (wedding-blogger) or have kids (mommy-blogger), I’ve never run a marathon or even an actually race yet (fitness-blogger), I love to cook, but am not a chef (food-blogger), I WISH I could travel more but don’t have the money (travel-blogger), and, although I could write about politics or social issues because of my job, I won’t write about work (current events-blogger).
Yet I have struggled with content and finding a focus. My biggest nagging thought when I sit down to write is, “who am I to think that anybody cares what I am doing?” Eh, and maybe you don’t. I understand. But that nagging thought (neurosis, anyone?) and my ridiculous schedule have kept me from writing as much as I’d like. So I’m going back to the first intention of this blog – to document my life … random, messy, and slightly out of focus.
I’m going to try to post at least 5 times a week. And because of that, you are going to get to read about my fascinating daily adventures (you can thank me later), such as:
1. Leaving work early to go to the dentist (no pics), followed by a quick trip to Bed Bath and Beyond, where I scored this …
2. Doing laundry …
3. Finding this little guy (or gal?) at Goodwill …
… Sherry at YoungHouseLove would be so proud.
4. Picking up Eric from the coffee shop near his work (poor boy locked himself out of the apartment at lunch and had to walk back) ….
5. Getting to go home to be greeted by this sweet thing …
Okay, now you may thank me.
P.S. Anyone drunk yet?
P.S.S. Why do I feel like I just broke the First Rule of blogging (ya know, like in Fight Club … do I really have to say it)??? I hope I don’t get kicked out.
